Who We Are and What Drives Our Precision
We don’t show up just to make parts. We show up because building something real—with our hands, our heads, and decades of hard-earned know-how—still matters.
Every job we complete gives us a jolt of pride. Sometimes that part ends up on a rocket. Sometimes it supports the people defending our country. Other times it plays a role in advanced robotics or helps speed the delivery of life-saving vaccines. Different applications, same outcome: what we make has a purpose far bigger than us.
We take that personally.
Why We Do What We Do
There’s a piece of our DNA in everything that leaves our shop. It’s out there strengthening national defense, enabling automation, pushing technology forward, and helping humans move closer to what’s next. That responsibility isn’t lost on us—and neither is the privilege.
We do this work because we love the manufacturing craft. Because precision matters. Because details matter. And because making parts that matter is still worth giving a damn about.
That passion is what separates us. When everyone’s doing it the same way, nothing meaningful moves forward. We choose a different path—one built on pride, accountability, and the belief that what you make should leave a mark.
Who’s in the Room Where It Happens
We are CARR—and culture isn’t a buzzword here, it’s the backbone. The way we work, the way we treat people, and the standards we hold ourselves to matter just as much as the parts we produce.
When people operate with integrity, show up authentically, and pull in the same direction, something powerful happens. You attract the right talent. The right customers. The right partners. The kind of people who care about doing things the right way, not the easy way.
That’s the room we’ve built. And it’s intentional. Because great work happens when like-minded people share the same values, the same drive, and the same respect for the craft.
History of CARR Machine & Tool, Inc.
In December of 1972, Richard “Dick” Carr took a leap of faith. He walked away from the security of a full-time plant manager role at a machine shop and chose to bet on himself, his skills, and his work ethic.
Dick’s story didn’t start in a corner office. In the late 1950s, he spent his days as a journeyman machinist at Kraft Foods, learning the craft the hard way—on the shop floor. When the sun went down, he chased a different passion, racing stock cars under the lights at Soldier Field in Chicago. He saw the checkered flag more than once, but he understood a hard truth early on: racing fed the soul, not a family.
So he shifted his focus. With a steady hand, a sharp mechanical mind, and an unrelenting drive to do things right, Dick began building something that would last. Piece by piece, job by job, he laid the foundation for a precision machining company rooted in pride and accountability.
Building Forward, Together
We don’t claim to have a crystal ball—but we’ve always believed the future is built through preparation and decisive action.
In 2004, after decades of working alongside his father, Jim Carr became President and sole shareholder of CARR Machine & Tool. He stepped into leadership with a clear mandate: strengthen the foundation and push the business forward. Within four years, the company reached record sales for the first time in its 35-year history.
The next evolution began in 2014 with the arrival of third-generation leadership. Ryan Carr joined the company bringing the same deep mechanical aptitude that defined his grandfather, paired with a business degree from DePaul University in Chicago. Together, with distinct and independent skill sets, Jim and Ryan have driven the company to new levels—achieving record sales and positioning CARR for long-term success.
Today, CARR continues to grow with purpose, operating from a modern industrial facility three times larger and equipped with advanced technology and automation. The goal is simple: meet increasing customer demands and align our capabilities with the industries we proudly serve.
