AEROSPACE MACHINING CAPABILITIES

Aerospace programs require absolute control over every stage of production. Each aerospace machining project begins with a comprehensive engineering review. Our team collaborates with customer design engineers to identify potential tolerance challenges, optimize tool paths, and plan finishing operations, thereby shortening lead times, minimizing revisions, and ensuring full alignment between design intent and manufacturing capability.

  • 5-Axis CNC Milling for Complex Geometries: Aerospace components frequently require compound angles, deep pockets, thin walls, and features that must relate precisely to one another across a complex geometry. Our 5-axis milling capability allows us to machine these features in a single setup, eliminating the accumulated error that comes from repositioning across multiple fixtures.
  • Lights-Out Machining for Consistent Throughput: We run lights-out machining on our 5-axis equipment, which means the machining process continues through nights and weekends under automated control.
  • Precision Turning for Rotational Components: Shafts, sleeves, bushings, and cylindrical components with tight concentricity, runout, and surface finish requirements are machined on our turning equipment. We hold tight tolerances on diameter and maintain surface finish callouts across aerospace material families.

We’ve built our reputation by supporting aerospace manufacturers who need reliable partners for both prototype and production-scale work. From single-part validation to repeat runs, CARR maintains process control through rigorous documentation and digital quality tracking.

AEROSPACE MATERIALS WE MACHINE

We machine many materials, including titanium alloys, nickel superalloys, aluminum alloys, stainless steel, and engineering plastics within the same quality system. Our programming team builds specific process plans for each material rather than applying generic parameters, which is critical for materials like Ti-6Al-4V and Inconel 718 where thermal behavior and tool wear directly affect dimensional outcome.

AS9100D Certification & What It Means for You

Our AS9100D quality management system is certified to the current revision of the standard and includes:

  • Design Review at Quote Stage: We review your drawing before quoting and flag features that may present risk during machining.
  • Process Documentation: Every job runs with a documented process plan tied to your drawing and revision level. Setup sheets, tooling lists, and inspection plans are generated before production begins.
  • Material Traceability: Material certifications are sourced, documented, and tied to each job traveler. Full material traceability to heat and lot is maintained in our quality records.
  • First Article Inspection Reports: New programs receive a complete FAIR with actual measured values for every dimension on the print.
  • In-Process and Final Inspection: Critical features are checked during production. Final inspection documents conformance to every print callout before shipment.
  • Corrective Action System: Non-conformances are documented, root-caused, and corrected through a formal CAR process.

Our AS9100D certification documentation, quality manual, and scope statement are available upon request during supplier qualification.

Common Aerospace Components We Machine

  • Structural Brackets and Fittings: Airframe and nacelle attachment hardware in titanium and aluminum
  • Housings and Enclosures: Avionics housings, sensor housings, environmental control components
  • Fluid System Components: Manifolds, valves, orifice plates, and flow control hardware
  • Engine-Adjacent Parts: High-temperature components in Inconel and other nickel alloys
  • Landing Gear Hardware: High-strength structural components in titanium and steel
  • Flight Control Components: Actuator brackets, bellcranks, push-pull rods, and linkages
  • Cabin and Interior Hardware: Structural inserts and fastener-driven assemblies

We do not maintain an approved parts list. Instead, we work from your drawing. If you have a component not represented above, submit your drawing, and we will assess capability.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Is Carr Machine & Tool AS9100D certified?

Yes. We hold a current AS9100D certification. Our scope covers precision CNC milling and turning for aerospace, defense, and adjacent industries. Our certificate and quality management system documentation are available during your supplier qualification process.

Yes. We regularly machine Ti-6Al-4V, Inconel 625, and Inconel 718 for aerospace customers. These materials require specific tooling strategies, programmed feeds and speeds, and careful thermal management during cutting. Our process team develops individual process plans for each material-geometry combination rather than applying standard parameters.

Yes. First article inspection reports are standard for all new aerospace programs and are included as part of our quality system deliverables. Each FAIR documents actual measured values against nominal and tolerance for every dimension on the print.

Yes. We machine and inspect to GD&T callouts including flatness, perpendicularity, parallelism, true position, concentricity, and profile of a surface. Our inspection equipment includes CMM capability for complex GD&T verification. Share your drawing and our team can confirm specific capability against your callouts.

We machine components from small, high-precision pieces to larger structural components. Contact us with your part envelope dimensions and we will confirm envelope capability and fixture strategy.

Yes. We ship finished aerospace components to customers across the United States. Many of our aerospace customers work with us electronically! Drawings are submitted digitally, quotes are returned with full documentation, and parts ship via freight carrier.
