OUR CNC MACHINING CAPABILITIES

Discover our CNC machining capabilities below!

Precision 3-, 4-, and 5-Axis CNC Milling

Our 5-axis milling capability, run on Doosan equipment with lights-out capacity, allows us to machine complex geometries in a single setup. Features that would require multiple fixturings on a 3-axis machine, with compound angles, undercuts, curved surfaces, and features on multiple faces, are machined in one continuous operation. This eliminates cumulative fixture error and produces tighter positional accuracy across all controlled features.

Lights-out operation means our 5-axis machines run through nights and weekends under automated control. For programs with firm delivery schedules, that capacity directly improves lead time on complex parts without sacrificing process control.

PRECISION CNC TURNING & HARD MACHINING

We produce precision-turned components, like shafts, sleeves, bushings, bores, and cylindrical assemblies, with tight diameter tolerances, concentricity, runout, and surface finish requirements. Our turning operations handle a full range of aerospace and defense material families, from aluminum and stainless steel to titanium and Inconel.

Multi-Operation Work

CARR operates a fleet of modern CNC machining centers capable of holding sub-thousandth tolerances. Multi-axis capabilities allow us to handle complex geometries and precision features across a wide range of metals, from aluminum and titanium to hardened steels and nickel-based alloys.

Our machining environment is supported by CAD/CAM programming, in-process measurement, and temperature-controlled inspection labs. These resources allow us to achieve precise surface finishes, consistent dimensional accuracy, and documented verification on every part.

FIRST ARTICLE INSPECTION AND FAIR DOCUMENTATION

Every new program receives a complete first article inspection. We document actual measured values against nominal and tolerance for every dimension on the print. FAIRs are formatted to your program requirements and provided with the first shipment. Production quantities run against the validated first article process.

CMM INSPECTION

We verify complex GD&T callouts, like true position, flatness, perpendicularity, parallelism, concentricity, and profile of a surface, using coordinate measuring machine inspection. CMM reports are included with shipments on programs where dimensional documentation is required. We do not estimate; we measure and record.

Collaborative Engineering and Design Support

Our engineers partner directly with customer design teams to improve manufacturability, reduce lead time, and enhance production consistency. Early collaboration helps identify tolerance conflicts, material challenges, and fixture design improvements before machining begins.

By combining engineering insight with advanced technology, CARR streamlines manufacturing while upholding the precision standards that set our customers apart.

Precision Machining for Regulated Industries

Clients in highly regulated markets depend on us for accuracy that they can prove. Our precision machining services are backed by:

  • AS9100D Certification for aerospace and defense.
  • ISO 9001:2015 Certification for process quality.
  • ITAR Registration for secure handling of controlled information.

Whether machining complex housings, precision brackets, or multi-part assemblies, we maintain the same focus on compliance, documentation, and performance.

Materials We Machine

We machine a full range of aerospace, defense, and industrial materials within our quality system. Material certifications are sourced, documented, and tied to every job traveler.

If your program specifies a material not listed here, contact us with your specification. We work with additional alloy families and will confirm capability directly.

  • Aerospace: Flight-critical components for commercial aviation, military aerospace, and advanced air mobility programs. AS9100D documentation and FAIR requirements are standard.
  • Defense: Weapon system hardware, housings, fire control components, and ground support equipment for Tier 1 and Tier 2 defense contractors. ITAR-compliant execution on all programs.
  • Space: Satellite structures, launch vehicle hardware, propulsion components, and GSE for space prime contractors and subcontractors. Full material traceability and AS9102-compatible FAIR documentation.
  • Humanized Robotics: Structural frames, joint assemblies, actuator housings, and end-effector components for humanoid and collaborative robot OEMs. Fast quoting and prototype-to-production continuity.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What makes Carr Machine & Tool a precision machine shop?

Precision machining at our shop means we machine to your drawing callouts, inspect against every dimension with calibrated equipment, document results through our AS9100D quality system, and retain records that support your audit requirements. Our 5-axis milling and CMM inspection capability support tight-tolerance work in aerospace-grade materials that most general machine shops cannot hold consistently.

Achievable tolerances depend on geometry, material, feature location, and part size. Our 5-axis Doosan equipment and CMM inspection capability support the tolerance requirements typical of aerospace and defense programs. The best approach is to share your drawing, and our team will confirm what is achievable on your specific part and flag any features that require process-level discussion before quoting.

Yes. We review your drawing during the quoting process and provide DFM feedback at no charge. For programs where design changes are still low-cost to make, this feedback can eliminate significant machining cost before a purchase order is issued.

Yes. Prototype and production work runs through the same AS9100D quality system. First article documentation from prototype work carries forward into production without a quality reset. When you move from development to production quantities, the only thing that changes is order volume.

Submit your drawing (STEP, IGES, DXF, DWG, or PDF) along with quantity, required delivery date, and any program-specific notes. We review every drawing before responding and return a complete quote that includes per-part pricing, lead time, and any relevant DFM notes.

Yes. We ship precision-machined components to customers across the United States. Many of our aerospace and defense customers work with us entirely electronically. Drawings come in digitally; parts ship via freight.
